After last’s year’s search for the V… I found my vino in a bottle of Sagrantino di Montefalco. Well, to be honest, it was a younger, unoaked version of Sagrantino by my good friend Antonelli, called Contrario. Bright, young and a little bit wild…
His classic Sagrantino di Montefalco are excellent examples of this wine and they’re organic too.
Sagrantino is not only a beautiful, complex dry red wine with long-term potential thanks to its sturdy tannic structure and intense flavor profile, it also hails from Umbria, Italy, the birthplace of Saint Valentine himself. Talk about a perfect pairing.

PS. If you are dying to pair this wine with chocolate, try the sweet, passito version. It’s a much smoother ride.
